ITH Zipper Bag Tutorial

Supplies needed:
4 pieces of vinyl, felt or fabric for exterior and lining bag.
2 small pieces of vinyl, felt or fabric for exterior and lining top of bag.
#3 zipper, tape, tear away stabilizer 

 

1. Hoop tear away stabilizer. Stitch placement stitch onto stabilizer.
Measure placement stitch and add 1'' around for the size of material needed for upper, lower and back of bag.

2. Place zipper over zipper placement stitches. Line up zipper teeth with center stitch line. Secure with tape. Stitch zipper tackdown stitches. 

3. Take lower exterior bag piece and line up edge next to zipper teeth. Secure with tape. Stitch lower piece tackdown stitches.

4. Take upper exterior bag piece and line up edge next to zipper teeth. Secure with tape. Stitch upper piece tackdown stitches.
5. Stitch design out on lower part of bag. When design is done, remove hoop from machine.

DO NOT REMOVE PROJECT FROM HOOP.

 6. Take lining fabric. Fold edge 1/2'' over for top and bottom lining and press.

7. Flip hoop over. Place folder edge of fabric over zipper placement stitches. Secure with tape. Place hoop back in machine and stitch lower and upper tackdown stitches.

8. Remove hoop from the machine.
DO NOT REMOVE PROJECT FROM HOOP.
Open zipper to about one inch from opposite side. Carefully remove stabilizer from behind zipper.

9. Place hoop back into machine Put exterior back over the front of bag right face down and stitch tackdown stitches. Remove hoop from machine.
DO NOT REMOVE PROJECT FROM HOOP. 

10. Flip hoop over. Place lining back of bag, right face down, over lining front of bag. Secure with tape. Place hoop back in machine. Stitch final stitches.
Remove hoop from machine. Remove project from hoop and trim around bag leaving approx 3/8'' seam allowance. Turn bag through lining opening. Close opening with glue, stitch witchery or hand sew. 

11. Turn bag one more time through zipper. Press and enjoy!
